Bohinj Ski Area and Triglav National Park Resort Description
Bohinj Ski Area and Triglav National Park is in the north western part of Slovenia, in the Centre of the Jullian Alps and has 3 major ski resorts in the area namely: Vogel Ski Resort, Kobla Ski Resort and Soriska Planina.
VOGEL SKI RESORT
VOGEL SKI CENTER lies high above the magnificent Lake Bohinj, in the heart of the protected territory of the Triglav National Park. The beginnings of skiing here dates back in 1964. The cable car was renovated in 2001 and has the capacity of 950 persons per hour. From the foot of the mountain (not far from the Lake Bohinj) you are then lifted to an altitude of 1535 metres above sea level, from where you can enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the Triglav mountain range, all the way to the Kamnik Alps.
Usually, the ski season lasts from December to the middle of April. The views of the high mountain ranges surrounding the resort give Vogel a very special charm. In spite of the magnificent nature, the skiing slopes are not very demanding but are excellently prepared, there are 88 pisted runs. There's also a terrain park and plenty of natural hits and some good freeride opportunities especially when the snow is fresh, for all snowboarders out there.
For lovers of cross-country skiing there is also a prepared shorter skating track. We offer a quality ski and snowboard instructions, ski and snowboard rentals, a snow kindergarten, a snow park covering 2 h.a. with a variety of obstacles and jumps, ski touring on virgin snow with a guide and the adrenalin tandem paraglide flights to the valley below. We also provide a wide variety of restaurants to suit every taste, and entertainment and games.
Vogel also has children's park which is located right at the exit of the upper cable car station. Children have two conveyors (60m and 20 m) and the carousel, which is especially suitable for children for the first time on skis. And for those who don't like to ski, may ride on the carousel of tubes. Even the parents are provided for: parents can watch their child from the terrace bars, which is located at the upper station of the cable car. Skiing in the children's park is free!
The larger ski area in Vogel is accessed by a spectacular cable car ride which arrives at a plateau with nursery area for beginners to practice their first turns on and trails radiating out for more advanced skiers. The views from here includes the Bohinj Valleys and lake, the surrounding Julian Alps, Triglav and the southern Bohinj mountains, the Karavanke mountain range and the Kamnik Alps.
There are not many black runs for advanced skiers but there is one gem at Vogel when conditions are right. The Graben piste goes over the back of the mountain from the top of the lifts and descends 8.5km (over five miles) for 1230 vertical metres down to lakeside, have to take the gondola back up again.
KOBLA SKI RESORT
KOBLA is situated just above a lovely Slovenian town of Bohinjska Bistrica where one can experience great skiing on tree-lined slopes and along the pine forest. It has a ski piste that runs from the top pf a double chair lift called Kobla III which has a 6 KM run. There are 6 ski lifts allowing more than 4000 skiers at one time. And because some of the pistes are lower Kobla also has snowmaking facilities for back-ups.
