Le Grand Bornand Resort Description

Village Heights:
1000m (3250ft) - Le Grand Bornand
1300m (4225ft) - Chinaillon

Highest Lift:
2600m

It is a fantastic intermediate area great for family getaways. It has two centers; one is the old town Le Grand-Bornand at 3,250 feet (1000 meters) and the other is what the tourist board refers to as the second floor of the resort, Chinaillon, set at 4,225 feet (1,300 meters). The village of Le Grand-Bornand functions like any European resort, but instead of being clustered around a central point, it is set along a skirting road that eventually winds up the Vallee du Bouchet. A farmer’s market is still held every Wednesday morning in the town center, defined by the church.
Access to the skiing/boarding from the village is a bit convoluted, but once aboard one of the two gondolas, everything falls into place. Chinaillon, 6 km. from Le Grand-Bornand village, is more a modern collection of hotels and restaurants than a traditional village. It has the best access to the downhill slopes and slightly better nightlife than the village does.

Difficulty Levels:

Beginner Slopes: 68%
Intermediate Slopes: 26%
Expert Slopes: 6%

Apres-Ski:

The choice of restaurants in the village and at height ranges through the full gamut from French country style, sophisticated dining (and fast food).
There's about the same choice of bars with some based in hotels, but you could just go for a quiet drink after a hard day on the slopes or one of the energetic pubs. The nightclub "Le Baron Noir" is located near the village at Pont du Venay, Chinaillon and is great fun for the younger skiers who have the energy to bop till they drop.
