Axamer Lizum Resort Description

Axamer Lizum designates an area in the Austrian Land of the Federal Republic Tirol, which lies in the low mountain range southwest from Innsbruck with Axams.

The Axamer Lizum is a skiing area, which was established on the occasion of the olympic winter plays 1964 and developed to the plays 1976, among other things with an endless rope haulage system on the 2340 m high Hoadl.

For many Innsbruck locals then Axamer Lizum is the first choice of local ski resort.

Axamer Lizum is close to Innsbruck, is the highest ski holiday resort around Innsbruck, it has some of the best off-piste and is gradually being linked up to the nearby ski hills on the plateau above Innsbruck.
Axamer Lizum skiing and snowboarding is ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. The piste map shows a compact ski area but in truth there is far more skiable terrain just off-piste, in between the runs and now with links into Mutters there are some great long trails to take.

The scenery in Axamer Lizum is superb and the sheer rock faces also help preserve the snow, especially on the womens downhill course where the Olympics took place. On powder days then Axamer Lizum is one of the best, both sides of the ski area offer some great steep skiing as well as plenty of tree-skiing. The mountain huts range from old and character filled wooden huts to the large modern and dramatically designed Hoadl restaurant at the highest point of the Axamer Lizum ski area.
