Pragelato Resort Description

With two Olympic ski jumps, a small independant ski area, and cross-country skiing, Pragelato is a contemporary resort with a luxurious spa hotel. Its après-ski is mainly hotel-based and the gondola links it to the Sestriere ski area.
This resort is not recommended for first-time skiers and boarders

Valleys and Mountains enriched by history. Pragelato is part of a region that may seem solitary but it has been crossed by military armies and monks, hermits and partisans and there are a whole host of interesting stories and historical facts associated with the area:

The valleys are interwoven with the history of the Valdesi, who won their proud struggle for recognition in 1848 after centuries of harsh repression. A host of invaluable ethnographic museums bears testimony to their culture and traditions.

Mining has been one of the major sources of income for the inhabitants of Val Germanasca since the late 18th century. The talc mined here has unmistakable properties and has been dubbed “the white of the Alps". A visit to these mines is a fascinating insight into the one of the world’s most unique extraction industries.

The Fort of Fenestrelle was built along a rib of Mount Orsiera by the Savoy in the 18th century and today is Europe’s largest fortified building. It stretches up for three kilometres from 1130 m to 1763 m and covers 1,300,000 m2. The interior is linked by a staircase of 4000 steps.
