Description
This chalet I sits on a small development of lovely chalets built of wood and local stone, situated at the edge of the village of Alpe d’Huez, popular for its south facing slopes offering 300 sunshine days per year. You can ski out of your chalet in the morning to the ski lifts just 500m away! At the end of a long day on the slopes, ski right back to your door, pop your boots onto the boot-warmer and curl up in front of an open fire. This Chalet offers all the warmth, comfort and charm you could hope for in this beautiful Alpine setting, with the added option of a catering package for all or part of your stay.
Alpe d’Huez is located at 1869 metres, high in the Northern Alpes and is the central resort of the Grandes Rousses ski area. This spans 10,000 hectares, including 250km of pistes linked by 84 lifts and culminating at the 3330m high Pic Blanc. From here, a breathtaking panorama encompasses Mont Blanc and Mont Cervin, and on a clear day, one fifth of France can be seen from this point!
The central bowl of the Alpe d’Huez valley naturally divides into zones catering for different abilities for both skiers and boarders. There are 38 excellent green runs for beginners just above the resort centre. Intermediates will enjoy the blue and red runs to the west of the bowl, or can take a chairlift up to the higher runs at 2300-2700m and explore the intermediate areas just off the glacier. Expert skiiers will enjoy the high altitude black runs around the Pic Blanc, among them the 16km long Sarrene run – the longest black run in Europe. You also have the option to try cross-country, ice cave and night skiing, ski joering (skier pulled along by a horse), dog-sledding, snowkiting and paraskiing. The resort also offers 2 snow parks, an ice rink, a sports centre and an outdoor heated pool; a Visalp pass will include the use of these facilities. Apres ski is lively and varied with a multitude of different bars and restaurants offering everything from an Irish beef and Guiness pie to a traditional Alpine fondue. Accommodation
