Overview
It is just six minutes drive from the charming resort of St Martin, from where a high-speed gondola will whisk you into the heart of the piste system. The village is a great place to eat out, with a choice of fantastic restaurants, including La Bouitte, which has two Michelin stars. There is a variety of shops and a couple of small mini-markets for basic provisions.
Interior
This traditional farmhouse has been beautifully restored to provide luxury accommodation for 10 people, in three well-appointed en suite bedrooms. The top floor is devoted to a family suite, with beautiful views of the village and across to Mont Blanc from the feature window. There is a further family room with a balcony, and a double room. A woodburning stove is the focus of the open plan living area, but underfloor heating will make sure that the rest of the chalet is just as warm. Meals can be taken at the large table, and a cushioned corner bench means there is room for everyone to eat together. On warmer evenings there's a spacious terrace with a chiminea, so that you can sit and chat late into the evening.
Exterior
The resort of St Martin de Belleville is one the best kept secrets in the Trois Vallees region, giving you quick access tot the world's larges ski domain - about 600km of pistes, and the same amont of off-piste skiing, so skiers of all levels are catered for. There's an ESF base in St Martin where beginners can gain confidence. Non-skiers can also enjoy the snow, with snow-shoe outings on the marked Bruyeres track, dog sleigh outings, a toboggan run and horse-riding. If you are looking for something a little more relaxing, visit one of the mountain spas for a hot stone massage followed by a relaxing sauna.
Views
Outdoor and country pursuits dominate the summer. There are more than 50 marked walking trails in the 3 valleys region - the lifts stay open, giving you easy access to the peaks, and spectacular views over the Alps. The huge numer of activities available in the region includes ice climbing, via ferrata, biking, horse-riding, canyoning, mountain fishing, riverboarding or white-water swimming. Arts workshops are held in St Martin de Belleville, where you can learn skills such as silk painting or mosaics, and local volunteers offer weekly tours of the valley's villages. Don't forget to visit one of the Alpine farms, where you can see the local Beaufort or Tomme de Savoie cheese being made, and take some home with you.
